So this is what ??? was in the schedule. Hype x2.
Also, despite what you think, it's apparently NOT Generations 2. So I'm sticking with this name till the actual name reveal.

Can't wait to see what the story is like this time around, loving that classic is back this time around too
I'm also curious to see where this could possibly lead, but with no gameplay or context to this whole thing any guesses at this time would be a shot in the dark. Only thing that appears solid at this time is that we have Classic and Modern Sonic fighting what appears to be Dr. Eggman once more to thwart his evil plots of world destruction and domination.
More info soon.

Note: this is likely just the opening stage. Reminder that Green Hill Zone Act 2 in Generations had worse hallway design than this, but then got significantly better with Sky Sanctuary and Seaside Hill.
Also main theme:

I kept seeing springs where they shouldn't be and the music was bad but I'm not sure if that was actual stage music or video music. But why Green Hill again? Use Emerald Hill, or even Angel Island. Classic Sonic has more games than just Sonic 1, SEGA.
Here's the video of the gameplay:
In terms of visuals, I really like the grass. It helps makes the stage feel alive. Compared to Generations, the stage feels much more compact, brighter and more platforming heavy, which is a plus. The music sounds different from what we're used to, but it doesn't sound bad to me.
There's a number of automation issues in the level, but it looks overall fun to play. Classic Sonic looks to play a bit better than in Generations, as it doesn't seem to have the fixed bounce height when you hit enemies anymore, and it seems that at the end of the footage, Classic Sonic performs a drop dash from Mania.
Here's some screenshots as well of the stage:
Interestingly, someone on Retro pointed out that this footage may be an earlier build of the game compared to the screenshots. Most notably, the last screenshot has some rings where the footage doesn't. Classic Sonic's first gameplay footage in Generations wasn't exactly spectacular either.
