    Red Rings were introduced in Sonic and the Secret Rings like SuperWind said and made a comeback in Colors and Generations, and are also in Jump and Dash. Red Rings weren't created for Sonic Dash...

    Oh yea, but I thought they changed their meanings each time. In Secret rings they're keys to unlockables, and in dash they seem to work as currency.

    What about the use of red rings in Sonic 4 ep.II?
    I never really saw anything unlocked when I got some of them.

    You got an achievement for them in S4EP2, and in SATSR you could unlock characters (Shadow, Cream, Amy, Blaze, Silver etc), Also in this game they weren't simply call "Red Rings" they were called Fire Souls.
