My favourite Castlevania game, also my first one. Closely followed by Super Castlevania 4 for the SNES.
    Both awesome. Play both.
Do it now for the sake of mankind.

What more do I need to explain?
I guess I could give you a long winded explanation:
Castlevania Symphony of The Night was a game released in the late nineties for the PS1 console. It got high ratings from critics and fans alike. It still holds up today with many ports, commentaries, lets plays, and a warm spot in our hearts.
The game takes place after Castlevania: Rondo of Blood (a game not many people had played at the time, because all we americans got for awhile was a pretty crappy port for the SNES called 'Dracula X'.) Four years after triumphing over Dracula and stopping him and Castlevania's rain of terror, Richter disappears. Alucard, a previous ally to the Belmont family, awakens and heads for Castlevania to see just what the heck is going on.
It is the first Castlevania game to feature EXP and other RPG elements.
That's pretty much all I can tell you, you can google it or give the game a try for yourself. (It runs fairly smooth on epsxe, if you want to go on the piracy route)

I've only played the N64 version but I may get the 3ds game.

Castlevania Symphony of The Night isn't on either of those consoles.
You might have played a different game in the series.

I know, I was referring to the Castlevania games made for those consoles.
